*    DATES & VENUE

*    CONCEPT

Future Generations, referring to generations to come in the future, will carry the impact of the current generations. This leads us to think that we have a moral responsibility for the future, also known as intergenerational ethics. This concept of future generations is part of the definition of sustainable development too. “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Commission of the United Nations, 1987).
In this context, we bring to light triple challenges: challenges of accountability, fairness, and dignified living. And these challenges arise from modernity, technology, and corporate exploitation. The end is the lack of ethical sensitivity towards the other, especially to the future generations. Two questions arise, in this context: a) Are we responsible for the future or do we owe anything to the future? b) if we are not responsible, then who and how will the future survive? What are we leaving for the future?
The aim of this seminar is to bring together researchers interested in contributing their understanding, responding to the questions raised above.The scope of this seminar is as broad as possible, both from academic and non-academic perspectives.

*    ABOUT CHENNAI

Chennai is one of the four metropolitan cities of India, and the capital city of the state of Tamilnadu. Known for its beaches, the city is generally warm and humid. Though Tamil is the main language and spoken by the general population, other languages such as English, Telugu,Malayalam, etc. are also spoken here. Mahabalipuram, 50 kms away from Chennai, is one of the historical places that attracts tourism and is worth visiting as it contains historical monuments. Chennai cuisine is also famous as it still upholds traditional Tamil food. The city is well connected by buses and trains, and the latest addition of the Metro trains also add glamour to this city. The city has plenty of beaches and spending the evening in the cool breeze of the Bay of Bengal in Marina beach, the second longest beach in the world, shouldn’t be missed out.
